MA CHAMBRE FROIDE (MY COLD ROOM)

MA CHAMBRE FROIDE tells the story of a woman, Estelle, who disappeared ten years ago, leaving behind a diary in which she recorded episodes of her life. Estelle loves nature, the stars, dreams and theatre. Estelle is a multi-skilled worker in a supermarket, where her generosity is put to the test and she is often abused by her colleagues, becoming their whipping boy. Yet she continues to want to “change others” and “help her fellow human beings”, especially her colleagues, who are tired and worn out by their lives. The shop’s employees are about to be confronted with an event that will turn their daily lives upside down. But no pact is made without a quid pro quo, and these ‘ordinary’ employees are about to experience a nightmare that will reveal unexpected shadows in each of them.

In the form of a succession of brief sequences, dreams, flashbacks and narrations, this show straddles the line between reality and fiction. By probing the ambiguities of the human being and grappling with economic and social realities MA CHAMBRE FROIDE presents a dark and sensitive fatality punctuated by jubilant humour, in which yesterday’s victims become tomorrow’s executioners.”

MA CHAMBRE FROIDE, from Joël Pommerat’s text, is the result of the work done by and with the participants to the weekly course ‘Méthode de l’Acteur·ice’ #3 – 2017/2018 – led by Sandrine Nogueira.

Residency in the Brandenburg

It was in Gransee, a small village in Brandenburg, surrounded by fields, farm animals and beehives, that the ‘Méthode de l’Acteur·ice’ #1 group retreated for a weekend of exploration of Ma Chambre Froide, by the playwright Joël Pommerat.

On the schedule: yoga, sensory expeditions, scenic breakfasts, interviews, awakening of the taste buds, evening debates, folk songs and night-time physical expression.

It was a unifying weekend that allowed everyone to connect with themselves, their character and the group, and to plunge freely into the emotionally rich research work.
